FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Kiwapower Solar Energy Supply Agreement

A Solar Energy Agreement, or PPA, is a medium to long-term relationship between Kiwapower and your business. Kiwapower will install, own, manage and maintain an industrial solar electricity system on your rooftop, parking area or other available space. In exchange, you agree to purchase the solar electricity at a fixed, predictable, and transparent price established in Mexican pesos per kWh.

Solar Energy Supply Agreements can range from 10 to 20 years depending on the preference of the customer.

At the end of the agreement, Kiwapower will transfer to you the fully functional solar system, providing your business free electricity for decades to come.

Yes, you can acquire the solar system and terminate the agreement at any time.

Requirements to qualify for a Kiwapower Solar Energy Supply Agreement

Yes, the Kiwapower solution works best for businesses that have a CFE bill greater than 100,000 pesos per month on average

Among other basic corporate information, Kiwapower requires 3 years of financial statements. Since Kiwapower invests the capital upfront, we can only work with companies that have a solid credit profile.

Although ownership of the property is preferable, it is not required. If you are a tenant in the property, it is important that your lease match the term of the Solar Energy Supply Agreement with Kiwapower and that your landlord agrees to the system being installed.

For commercial and industrial projects up to 500kW, the required space is approximately 10m2 per kW considering that the roof is free of obstacles that generate shadows.

Powering your business with solar electricity

CFE remains your supplier! Together with Kiwapower, CFE will continue to be responsible for serving your business’s electricity requirements, including during the times when the solar system is not generating.

Kiwapower optimizes the design and size of each solar system to fit within your available roof area while generating an amount of solar electricity equivalent to the bulk of your yearly consumption. The solar system cannot exceed the permissible 500 kW. The Kiwapower solution is not designed to replace your entire electricity consumption. As such, when Kiwapower is not generating electricity, you continue to draw power from the grid and pay CFE for it, as usual.

No. For most installations the solar system clips directly onto the roof. When clipping to the roof is not feasible; we will let you know and discuss alternative methods. In all cases, we guarantee that no damage will be done to your roof.

The Kiwapower in-house engineering team designs and builds every system to a high standard of reliability and durability.

When all put together, you can be confident that a Kiwapower solar system will continue to operate in an economic manner, long after the end of the Solar Energy Supply Agreement.

Not much! Kiwapower is solely responsible for the solar system’s operations and maintenance during the term of the Solar Energy Supply Agreement.

Kiwapower will:

  • Monitor the solar system
  • Clean the panels as required (we ask that you provide us clean water)
  • Perform preventative maintenance to the solar system
  • Perform any corrective maintenance, including procurement of spare parts

All the above with no cost for you.

Not much! The total process from start to finish takes about 6 months. Onsite construction activitieswill last about 8 weeks. During the construction period, we ask that you designate a loading, unloading, and staging area for the equipment. We always aim to minimize any interference in your daily operations. Let us know of any special requirement you might have so that we can plan accordingly.

While the solar system could continue to operate, Kiwapower cannot provide power during a CFE black-out as the solar system needs to synchronize with the grid to function and to comply with all regulations.
